“All I wanted was to live a life where I could be me, and be okay with that. I had no need for material possessions, money or even close friends with me on my journey. I never understood people very well anyway, and they never seemed to understand me very well either. All I wanted was my art and the chance to be the creator of my own world, my own reality. I wanted the open road and new beginnings every day.”

Everybody who uses goodreads!!!! Please consider using StoryGraph instead!!! It’s an amazing black owned interface that give you much more depth in recommendations and finding books to match your reading style/mood! It’s in beta and already so much better than goodreads (which is owned by am*zon) , and the reading challenges are great ways to read new thing. It also allows you to search for really niche tropes you love, I saw a guy on Twitter who asked for petty neighborhood drama and got recommendations! It gives you an option to mark a books as “did not finish” and you can give half stars and quarter stars for reviews, plus comprehensive graphs about your reading stats.

They’re a little slow on importing goodreads libraries right now as they were at a 1k users 8 day ago and now have recently hit 16.5k (!!) but it’s well worth the wait.

oh, to be the owner of a small bookshop on a cobblestone street with roses climbing the front of the building, where books are stacked about in piles and there’s always coffee brewing and a sleepy shop dog lifts his head at the sound of the door’s bell and thumps his tail against the hardwood

going into second hand bookstores and seeing the worn out paperback you’ve been trying to find for months and finding an odd bookmark inside the musty pages feels like divine providence
